FAQ

1. What does Syncopate do?

Syncopate conducts team building workshops, focused on the universal language of music, to facilitate communication, camaraderie and lay a foundation of trust for corporations and various non-profits.

Syncopate does not use methods that scare (trust falls, ropes, fire walks), embarrass (karaoke) or bore participants (“talking head” seminars, mind-numbing presentations).

2. How does Syncopate do it?

A typical team building program starts by meeting key stakeholders and outlining goals and objectives. A workshop is then custom tailored to these goals, typically in a three-hour exercise, with groups pre-arranged for optimal performance.

The workshop begins with attendees entering the room and immediately realizing this is not a “typical” team building exercises. Teams take the helm of their mobile recording workstations, working together to create a team name, logo and musical composition. Our expert music engineers and DJs guide the composition process, fostering inter-team collaboration.

The workshop culminates with a team DJing tracks and adding in scratches for a final performance. Following the performance, a facilitated debrief allows attendees to gleam how this relates to the day to day working experience.

3. What happens in a typical music team building workshop?

With the help of our award-winning music engineers, the workshop kicks off with high-energy music and a professional DJ scratchin’ it up on stage while the audience walks in. When the event begins:

  • Syncopate facilitates an interactive ice-breaker before dividing the group into team of five.
  • Teams take the helm of their own mobile recording studio and collaborate to develop their team’s brand identity with a logo and name.
  • Teams define their own sound by composing an original remix of a popular song using a series of templates preconfigured in Garageband (very user friendly).
  • Exercise culminates in presenting and performing their team’s song for the audience (their peers).
  • Syncopate facilitates a debrief of the experience and learnings.

Teams will collaboratively communicate, innovate, problem solve, motivate, take risks and ultimately agree upon the perfect product – their team song.

4. What are typical group sizes?

Group sizes range from ten to ten thousand.

5. Where do the workshops take place?

Our turn-key team building activities can take can take place on-site or off-site anywhere in the world, from Vineyards in Sonoma to conference centers in NYC.

6. Can your experiential teambuilding programs permanently change how our group works together?

It is our belief and experience that no stand-alone experiential program or day can have a lasting effect on work behavior or organizational culture unless three additional factors are part of the design and in place.

1. The program must be a part of and reflect existing organizational objectives and goals.

2. The program must be part of an organizational initiative, intervention or reflect and reinforce existing skills training in a particular content area.

3. The program must be designed with a follow-up session that renews experiential learnings as well as reexamines content areas and looks at ongoing issues.

7. Who are your clients?
